ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN, YOBAMBA
YoBamba was seeking a unique, environmentally conscious, modern design for their self-serve yogurt US-NorthEast franchise. The environment optimized flow-paths for consumers, while creating diverse areas for seating and food preparation throughout the cafe.
Off-site Manufacturing
All Sapelle veneer plywood pieces were designed in a Rhino 3D modeling program and fabricated off site in Brooklyn, NYC. All the cut pieces were then transported to the 1st YoBamba location in Norwalk, CT. Everything was then assembled through a list of detailed instructions.
Orientation As Signage
The horizontal orientation of the materials helped direct occupants throughout the space. In most self-serve environments, directionality and orientation can be confusing. The success of the project was in how little communication was necessary by employees to direct new visitors from serve-to-pay.
Environmental Signage
Wherever possible the slat materials would ungulate to create new openings, reveals, and signage to draw customer eyes to new areas within the space.
